Wahine on Water - Gisborne/Tairāwhiti. This event is targeted at females from any club who would like to spend a fun day in an IRB, learning tips on driving and crewing from some of the best female IRB drivers in the Region. Club IRB instructors of all genders are welcome to accompany members from their club. You must be 14 yrs with a Surf Lifeguard Award to crew the IRB, and 16yrs with a crewpersons module to operate the IRB.
Why is it happening?
In 2019, 50% of Surf Lifeguards were female, yet only 28% of our IRB drivers were female. This is something SLSNZ and the Wahine on Water group are looking to address through peering inexperienced lifeguards with an experienced female IRB mentor. The intention of the networking day is to provide females more time in IRBs in a supportive, low stress environment.
