Huge congratulations to our Wainui Oceans Team who competed with unconditional commitment and big hearts taking on the best of the country’s junior surf sport athletes.
Weather conditions eased some what for day 2 of Oceans 18. Beach availability was a concern for organisers today with Beach Flags on the schedule and not much room until the tide receded with strong onshore winds continuing to push in swell combined with a king tide due to the full moon.
Oceans 18, the National u14 championship of NZ for surf lifesaving is going on at the moment. Up in Auckland at Orewa beach. Riversun Wainui is there and our members are going unreal. Surfs howling onshore messy as anything and raining but Wainui kids are loving it.
Gisborne Junior Champs 2018 held at Midway Beach on February 4 2018 on a stunning summers day. Organisers had to postpone the event that was scheduled to take place on the Saturday but due to bad weather forecasted decided to play it safe and hold off till the Sunday, great decision!

The annual Wainui Junior Carnival was held as a twilight carnival this year with over 80 juniors from Gisborne's 3 clubs attending.
A small team of Wainui Juniors headed over to Papamoa for some early season competition at the BOP Junior Champs.
It's all about the kids and nurturing a fun and safe environment for them to learn skills that will keep them and their families safe at the beach.
A lovely evening to bring together past & present members of the club to celebrate 80 years captured in a beautifully presented book.
