BP and SLSNZ launched a competition earlier this year for submissions on why our Surf Life Saving Club would need a new IRB. Wainui Surf Life Saving Club made it though the initial rounds and is now 1 of 4 clubs around New Zealand in the running for a new IRB package worth $25,000.
A vital Emergency Call Out Squad (ECOS) has been re-established in the Gisborne-Tairāwhiti area after a three year hiatus, which will service the region for all surf life saving related call out operations, even outside patrol hours and including search and rescue missions.
Friday 29th June saw the Gisborne/Tairawhiti Surf Life Saving region awards for the 2017/18 seaseon. Surf Club members from the district came out to celebrate an amazing season of volunteer hours, passion, sporting and life guarding excellence.
The general feeling was one of unity and camaraderie where it didn’t matter what club you were from we are all together as one United Gizzy family.
Our Wainui members took away a stack of awards, we are super proud of them and all those who contribute to our club.

Jasmine Smith and Abby Logan have been paddling together probably since before they could walk. Coming together again for for the Open Women's Board Rescue in their last event of the SLSNZ 2018 Nationals done in spectacular fashion in the peaking swell and late afternoon light. Heading into the medal presentation suspense was building as placings had not been confirmed - GOLD to our girls!!
Day 2 of the SLSNZ 2018 Nationals dawned with a blustery Southerly and jump in swell that had event management relocate the U16 competitors at Waikanae.
The 2018 SLSNZ Nationals got off to a great start with perfect conditions across the beach at Midway. Being on home turf was an asset to the Wainui competitors who were able to get a good amount of training in on the competition arena leading into the Nationals.
2018 SLSNZ Nationals in Gisborne based at Midway Surf Club got off to a great start with the official opening day where the Masters competitors get out and go hard.
